Coffee With Genny B

Some people believe that doing cardio is the best way to lose weight and get fit. And while cardio has many benefits such as lowering your blood pressure, strengthening your immune system, and supporting your mental health, it’s only one part of your health and wellness journey. In episode 85, Genny spoke with Shauna Muldrew, a personal trainer and Registered Health and Nutrition Counselor (RHNC) who has been in the health and fitness industry for over a decade. With a diploma in Holistic Nutrition and Health Coaching, she believes that a holistic approach to improving one’s health includes these components: nutrition, fitness, and wellness. Shauna stressed the importance of including strength training into your fitness plan, especially for women, and recommends doing it least twice a week. This can include the use of weights, dyna bands or using your own body weight, and can easily be done at home. Benefits include improving muscle strength (hello active daily living!), protecting bone health and, because it helps your body burn calories more efficiently, it helps to keep the weight off for good. Intermittent fasting was another topic that Genny and Shauna discussed, with Shauna explaining what it was and how it works. She also shared that exercising during her fasting period was more beneficial for her. Shauna also shared information about her app (located on her website) that includes healthy recipes, workout videos and so much more.
